Event description During a practical Virtual Classroom, delegates will acquire a better understanding of best practice guidance from national organisations (BASW, SCIE, DHSC, SWU, PHE etc) to ensure that they remain able to safeguard adults with care & support needs in line with the statutory duties during this time.

With national lockdown arrangements in place some risks will be mitigated but other undoubtedly will increase, where the source of the risk lies within the household, or where abusers seek to exploit vulnerabilities and isolation via scams and other sorts of financial abuse. Also, care providers are operating under unprecedented pressure which could affect their ability to safely meet service users needs and admissions to hospital are clearly affected by the need for critical care for CV19 patients.

The training session will cover:

 ·        Risk factors for abuse during isolation in household focus on domestic abuse and scams

·        Risk assessing CV19 and client contact during safeguarding enquiries

·        Mutli agency safeguarding work and use of video/telephone conferencing engaging other agencies

·        Public Health guidance during home visits

·        Discussion of the implications of CV19 & its affect on services ability to engage in the process of safeguarding

·        Implications for LEO and SAM, including recording and decision making
Training objectives That staff are supported to understand how to work as safely as possible with clients at risk of abuse

That an assessment of risk for any proposed client contact is undertaken in line with the latest guidance as part of any safeguarding enquiry

That LEOs and SAMs are informed about the national and local guidance on meeting duties during the current crisis.

S42 Enquiries are streamlined and focussed on the key elements of the process, including recording decisions, visits and outcomes of safeguarding work.
