Event description | To facilitate Social and Health care professionals working with Adults at Risk in understanding the practical issues around property and finance for people who lack mental capacity to manage their own affairs. To provide an understanding of what assistance and services are available internally within Ealing Council and externally to assist clients who lack capacity to make decisions and take action around the management of their property and Finance. To assist Social and Health Care professionals to understand their role in safeguarding the property and finance of adults at risk who lack mental capacity to manage their own property and finance. Topics to be covered: Assessing capacity in relation to property and finance The criteria for referring clients to the CFA Team for assistance in managing client's financial affairs The Protection of Property Service as a statutory local authority service and how this service can assist in safeguarding client' property and finance. The powers of a Deputy, Appointee and a Lasting Power of Attorney and deciding what power is most suitable for the client. Making a referral to the CFA team for finance and protection of property services Making an application to the Court of Protection for a Deputy of the Last Resort Tenancy Matters Intervention ' to minimise the risk of financial abuse or what actions should be taken if financial abuse has occurred. Real case discussions. |

Training objectives | To understand the various powers for the management of client finances and the differences between them. (Appointeeship, Property and Affairs Deputyship and Lasting Power of Attorney) To understand the role of the Client Financial Affairs Team and the assistance that can be provided by this team for the management and safeguarding of client property and finance To understand the role of the Court of Protection, The Office of the Public Guardian and the Department for Work and Pensions and what assistance they can give for the protection and safeguard of client's property and finance. To understand the importance of the role the role of the Social / Health Care professional in identifying client issues around the management of property and finances, and what assistance they should provide. |
